This Week's Composition

IT

Once upon a time, in a distant land, there lived a woman. It was a sunny afternoon and the woman had been shopping all morning. At some point she had remembered it, and then decided not to think about it, not to talk about it anymore. In the future, people might understand it but now it could be a risky.

She needed to forget it. However, it came back to her mind again and again. She went out and walked for hours trying to forget it.  “I was not guilty of it; it was not my fault,” she thought. “Why did I do it?” she asked herself.

Many years afterwards, she is still under the effects of it, but now she has become accustomed to having it in her mind.

Nobody knows her secret about it. However, she does not know how long she will be able to keep it.

The Museum Association was started (9) two years ago.
Their task is to change the way people think about museums in the next (10) five years.
Ms Edwards worked for a big (11) advertising agency before coming to work for the Association.
Museums must be more (12) active in the way they attract visitors.
Museums were mainly for people with high levels of (13) education.
Ms Edwards would like museums to have (14) close links with schools in the area.
She wants museums top be friendly like (15) shopping malls.
A trip to the museum can be (16) exhausting for most people.
Investigating in museums is a way of investing in (17) the future of the country.
The Museum Festival next year will be held in (18) June.

Music and the Counterculture of the 1960s

A Celebration Of The Woodstock Music And Art Fa...

As part of the syllabus for the Advanced level, students are required to have experience in note-taking while attending a conference on a specific theme. For this reason, and as an extension of our Beatles’ evening, the EOI Santa Brígida has invited Dr Daniel Fyfe of the ULPGC to give a talk about the music of the 1960s and its relationship with society at that time. It will take place in the library on the ground floor of the School at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 27th November. Attendance is compulsory for NA, but everyone is more than welcome. It promises to be most entertaining and informative!

This Week's Speaking Idea

Oddly enough, if you want to communicate effectively, you first have to be a good listener. It’s essential to pay attention when someone else is talking so that you can respond to the other person and keep the conversation going.

 • If you’re making polite conversation with someone you don’t know well, try to draw them out by asking about their interests.

 • Don’t just take over the conversation, or you’ll come across as a dominant bore.

 • If you ask someone a question, don’t jump in with another question before you’ve heard the answer to the first one.

 • Don’t cut someone off in the middle of what they’re saying – even if it is boring!

• When it’s your turn to speak, provide enough information to get your point across, but don’t ramble on.

 • If you want to get through to people, don’t use words they won’t know, or long, drawn-out sentences. It’s far better to keep it simple.

There’s nothing worse than talking over people: it’s very irritating, and no one likes it.
